It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has accomplished all there is.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

Finally, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her debut and seven global championships have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

Whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort is debatable.

Many contend the argument supporting championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this performance was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it was a disappointing period because I feel like I lacked timing completely," commented Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature take over and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from there Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to play and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was dismissed her side required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can succeed."

That comment will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this triumph coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wanted to have participated through the pain.

However although she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as captain.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
