Blues Boss Maresca Rejects Manchester City Links as Pure Gossip
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has branded recent talk connecting him with a return to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The Italian manager, who once served as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, addressed the persistent speculation about his future.
Maresca, named Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, is under contract that runs until 2029, with a possible extra year available.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is little room for such distractions."
He further elaborated, Primarily, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my attention, I said many times, is solely on this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was linked with Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, currently sitting in fourth position in the Premier League, are set to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a lunchtime fixture.
Strain Following Previous Remarks
Maresca's latest comments follow after he described a previous two-day spell as his "worst" since arriving at Chelsea.
Those original words had fueled considerable talk of a potential rift between the manager and the club's key decision-makers.
When asked if he had since spoken with the Chelsea's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same facility, so we speak about different things. But about the Everton press conference, no."
The Italian however affirmed he would "absolutely" remain at the club for the coming campaign and urged the fans to "continue to support the team".
In more positive news, Maresca revealed that sidelined forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return sooner than expected, possibly available for a match against Aston Villa on 27 December.
Perspective: Unresolved Tension
The perceived strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board persists as an unhealed issue that still create unease.
While there has been no further escalation of the matter in the open, there has also been no resolution offered, leaving the matter unresolved.
The atmosphere during these press conferences has grown increasingly awkward, leading to concerns it could impact what has up to now been a decent start to the season.
Chelsea's sporting situation is strong: they are in the top four in the league, have reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, and can secure a favourable Champions League position with strong performances in their remaining matches.
The prevailing uncertainty is whether this behind-the-scenes situation might eventually disrupt a squad that was beginning to look settled.
