“That was unfortunate. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
