Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
